2011:
The Teamsters 580 Retiree Chapter meeting was held at the Union Hall on
Wednesday October 26, 2011. You can view the meeting minutes

T580 is also having a food drive. Please bring non-perishable items, paper
products or personal hygiene items to 11/30 meeting or drop off at union hall.

2011:
The Local 580 Retiree Chapter by-laws have been finalized and can be viewed

July 13, 2011:
The first Teamsters Local 580 Retiree Chapter meeting was held at the Union Hall
on Wednesday July 13, 2011.

Meeting called to order by Gary Kosky

Mailing to 400 retirees (mailing within 100 mile radius) notifying of today’s
meeting
We have an area at the union hall for computer access and posting of meeting
minutes
Clarified meetings held the last Wednesday of every month at 3 p.m. No postcards
to those with emails
Today’s agenda:
-Form committees -elect officers
Members’ suggestions:
*Estela Escamilla – set up a phone tree to contact and invite retirees to
come to meetings
*Barry Dyer – get representatives to present insurance plans and other
benefits
*Estela Escamilla – have latest updates given on contract negotiations or
other changes that could affect retirees

Article I
Name and Nature
This organization shall be known as the Michigan Teamsters Local 580 Retirees
Chapter, with principal offices located at 5800 Executive Drive, Lansing, MI
48911.
Article II
Objects and Purposes
We the Teamsters Retirees, hereby pledge to uphold and defend the integrity of
the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Chauffeurs, Warehousemen, and
Helpers of America of which we are a part. Just as we actively gave our support
for the dignity and security of our members during our working lives in the
industry and in our union, so we shall continue our efforts to advance our
common interests as retirees for the purposes of advancing the interests of all
retirees, participating in social and recreational activities for our mutual
pleasures, and for the purpose of enjoying the fellowship of other retirees in
the golden years of our lives.
Article III
Membership
All retired members of Teamster Local 580 shall be eligible for membership in
this Chapter.
Article IV
Officers
The officers of this Chapter shall consist of a President, a Vice President, a
Secretary- Treasurer, a Recording Secretary, and three (3) Trustees, herein
after known as the Executive Board. These officers shall perform the following
roles:
PRESIDENT: The President shall preside at all membership meetings and at
such other meetings as may be called. The President shall countersign checks for
withdrawals of funds from the account of the Club. The President shall appoint
all committees with the approval of the other club members of the Executive
Board. If in the opinion of the other officers, any committee, or any member
thereof, who does not function due to absenteeism or incapacitation, it shall be
the duty of the President to replace such committees or committee member(s) at
the next meeting of the Chapter.
VICE PRESIDENT: The Vice President shall preside at all membership
meetings and all other meetings which may be called by the Chapter which may
require the services of the Vice President, who shall have the authority to act
only during the absence or incapacitation of the President. The Vice President
shall countersign checks for the withdrawal of funds from the account or
accounts of the Chapter.
SECRETARY-TREASURER: It shall be the duty of the Secretary-Treasurer to keep a
record of all additions or withdrawals of funds from the Chapter. S/he shall
make a report to the membership pertaining to his office each month. The
Secretary –Treasurer shall be responsible for the finance records of the
Chapter. The Treasurer shall counter-sign checks for the withdrawal of funds
from the account(s) of the Chapter. All checks for withdrawal of funds shall
have two (2) signatures of any two of the three officers: President,
Vice-President, or Secretary-Treasurer.
RECORDING SECRETARY: The Recording Secretary shall keep the minutes of all
meetings of the Chapter. The Recording Secretary shall be furnished with
whatever assistance may be required to assist him or her with any outside work
which the Recording Secretary may be required to do. The Recording Secretary
shall keep on file all correspondence pertaining to this office.
TRUSTEES: The Trustees shall be members of the Chapter and shall vote on all
matters which are brought to the attention of the Executive Board for a vote.
They shall assist other officers in the performance of their office.
Article V
Executive Board
The Executive Board of this Chapter shall be composed of the President,
Vice-President, Secretary-Treasurer, Recording Secretary, and three (3)
Trustees. The Executive Board shall have the power to transact the business of
the Chapter and to meet when it deems it important in the interest of the
organization. The Executive Board shall hold meetings at such time and place as
shall be determined by the President. Executive Board must meet at least twice
(2) per year, preferably May and September. A majority of the Executive Board
shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business at any meeting of the
Executive Board. The action of a majority of the Board members present at a
meeting at which a quorum is present shall be action of the Board.
Article VI
Nomination and Election of Officers
Meetings for the nomination and election of officers shall be held in November
or December of each election year. Officers who are elected shall serve for a
period of two (2) years. The Chapter Executive Board shall set the time and
place of the nomination and election of officers and make all other arrangements
to promote the greatest possible attendance by all members. The Chapter shall
elect its officers by a simple showing of hands or by secret ballot, not less
than once every two years. Incumbent officers shall continue to perform the
duties of their office until successors have been elected, qualified, and
installed.
Every member whose dues are paid up through the month in which the nominations
and elections are held, shall have the right to nominate and vote for the
candidate of his/her choice. Every member in good standing by the payment of
his/her dues on or before the last business day of the current month, and who
has been in continuous good standing for the each consecutive month in the
twelve months period immediately prior to the nominations, shall be eligible to
hold office, if he is otherwise qualified under these by-laws.
No two members of the same family shall hold office at the same time.
The nomination and election of officers shall take place in November or December
of the election year. Elections may be by a simple showing of hands or by secret
ballot. The determination as to the form of election shall be made by a vote of
the members present at the nomination meeting. There shall be no write-in
candidates, and there shall be no proxy voting in either form of election. The
candidate receiving the greatest number of votes for any office shall be
declared the winter. Before the election a committee of not less than three (3)
members shall be appointed by the President to count the show of hands or tally
of ballots, depending on the form of election conducted.
Article VII
Rules for Chapter Meetings
1. Any talking or other activity which may have the effect of disturbing the
meeting shall be deemed out of order.
2. When a member wishes the floor, s/he shall rise and address the Chair before
speaking on the subject.
3. Every member while speaking shall adhere to the question under discussion.
S/he shall avoid all personality and indecent language.
4. No member shall speak more than once on the same question until all members
wishing to speak have had an opportunity to do so.
5. No member shall interrupt another member while speaking.
6. In presenting a motion a brief statement of its object may be made, but no
discussion of its merits shall be permitted until the question is stated by the
Chair.
7. There shall be a membership meeting of the Chapter once every month; however,
membership meetings may be suspended during any three months between June and
October by action of the membership.
8. The regular order of business of the meeting shall be:
a. Roll call of officers
b. Reading of minutes of previous meeting
c. Initiation of new members
d. Financial Report
e. Reports of officers, committees, or delegates
f. Communications and bills
g. Unfinished business
h. Good and Welfare
i. New Business
j. Adjournment
Article VIII
Committees
There shall be established committees within the Chapter which are deemed
necessary. These committees shall be appointed by the President, subject to the
approval of the Executive Board. The following committees are suggested:
1. Organizing and Membership
2. Recreation and Social Activities
3. Political Action
4. Labor and Retirement Issues
Article IX
Finances
All monies collected by and on behalf of the Chapter shall be kept in the funds
of the Chapter by the Secretary-Treasurer and shall be disbursed upon
presentation of a voucher signed by the President. Guidelines for reimbursement
of expenses shall be established by the Executive Board. The Secretary-Treasurer
shall prepare current financial reports of the funds and expenditures on a
quarterly basis. The fiscal year shall begin January 1 and end December 31.
Article X
Savings Clause
If any provisions of these By-Laws shall be declared invalid or inoperative by
any competent authority of the Executive, Judicial, or Administrative branch of
Federal or State Government, the Executive Board shall, pending the next meeting
of the delegates, have the authority to suspend the operation of such provision
during the period of its invalidity and to substitute in its place and stead a
provision which will meet the purpose of the invalid provision. If an article or
section should be held in valid by operation of law or by any tribunal of
competent jurisdiction, the remainder of these By-Laws or the application of
such article or section to persons or circumstances other than those as to which
it has been held invalid, shall not be affected thereby.
Article XI
Amendments
Any member may propose amendments to these By-Laws. The proposed amendments
shall be submitted to the Chapter and read at one (1) regular meeting and voted
upon at the next regular meeting. Any proposed amendment(s) must be in writing
and submitted to the Secretary-Treasurer. All amendments and changes in these
By-Laws must be approved by the Teamsters Local 580 Retirees Chapter.
