Help Needed

All TEAMSTER Members and Retirees

This Saturday October 31, 2009  there are  two major actions happening at the Local Union.  The Carol Wood get out the vote (GOTV) campaign and the carhaul handbilling campaign.

We are meeting up at the Union Hall at 9:00 am on Saturday.

The National Carhaul Campaign will continue this weekend with more handbilling at selected Auto dealerships.  This campaign is designed to let GM and Chrysler know that we will not allow them to give away our carhaul work to substandard employers and drivers.  This is a huge battle that Members of Local 580, the International Union, other Locals, and Joint Councils across the Country, YOUR UNION; have taken on to protect thousands of  middle class carhaul jobs across the Country.  This is work that has been our work for over fifty (50) years and we will not allow GM and Chrysler to use our tax dollar paid for bailouts to get rid of these middle class Teamster jobs. 

Those helping Carol Wood will go as a group to her headquarters for a literature drop; or stay at the Union Hall and make phone calls to supporters of the Teamster endorsed candidate for Mayor in next week’s City election.  This will have a huge impact on Teamster 580 members at the City of Lansing. 

Both actions should be done within three (3) to four (4) hours.  Many of us working for other TEAMSTER employers think that these things do not affect us.  We may not all be Carhaulers or City of Lansing Teamsters but we are Teamsters just the same.  These are jobs that are held by YOUR SISTERS and BROTHERS.  We need help from all groups to protect these jobs.  Come out and help.  It will have a long term affect on TEAMSTER FAMILIES lives.  Much longer than an MSU football tailgate or game or many other things that occur this Saturday. 

Only with YOUR help, TEAMSTER help, will these programs succeed.  Help those in our Local who need help.  In the future you will need help and they will be there.  This is what the TEAMSTERS were built on and this is what we need to carry on.  Together we can protect our family’s  standards of living.  Apart We, our Children, or Grandchildren will pay the price.
