Purge Bernero Video Contest .                           Local 580's Purge Virg video contest kicks off. .

Local 580 is sponsoring a 'Purge Bernero' video contest.  The contest kicked off March 31, 2008 with radio commercials.  The contest, the commercial and the reason behind it all was the subject of numerous TV and radio news reports on March 31 and April 1.  To view the WILX TV news report on the contest, click here.

Local 580 represents about 250 city workers.  Secretary-Treasurer Mike Parker was interviewed and said, in part, "We want to show everyone how unhappy they are with Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero.  [We are] ...standing up to a bully we think is unfair to people - not only to his workers, but also members of the public.  [Mayor Bernero has proposed a plan to cut benefits to Local 580 members working for the City of Lansing, saying] ...either we agree with him or he's going to lay our folks off.  Our folks that work for the city, they're hard working.  They deserve better than that."
