Dear Brothers and Sisters,
The condition of the parking lot at the Local 580 Union Hall has gotten very bad
this winter, including some crater sized holes that could cause serious damage
to the unlucky car that drives into them. Attempts to repair the damage
with cold patch have not worked and the parking lot needs to be replaced.
The Local has obtained a bid from Aggregate Industries to tear up the old lot
and replace it. Aggregate Industries is a Teamster represented company
employing members of Teamsters Local 580. We believe it is important to
use this company as our members work there. They are the only Teamster
represented company in the area that does this type of work. The estimate
is for $27,500.00.
Unfortunately, this is more than we can afford to pay out of the Union's general
fund at this time. Our only option is to come to you, the members of Local
580, and ask for a special assessment of $20 per member. This assessment
would be collected for only two months at $10 per month. All monies would
be placed into the building account and used for replacement of the parking lot.
Any money left over would be left in the building account and only be used for
any necessary building repairs that may come up in the future.
The Local will be conducting a walk in vote for approval of this $20 assessment
at the Union Hall on Friday March 28, 2008 from 6:30 AM until 8:00 PM. The votes
will be counted immediately afterward.
I am asking that you support this assessment and vote to improve your Union
Hall. This facility belongs to all of us, the members of Teamsters Local
580. We have all invested in it and we should take pride in it and do what
is necessary to maintain it. This improvement will add value to this
investment. The Union Hall is also available for rent to members for small
parties and receptions at a fee of $100.

Membership meeting scheduled for Wednesday March 12, 2008 at 7:00 PM.
