On Saturday February 24th Teamsters Local 580 members began picketing non-union carhaul company Tran Tech at the new Delta Township GM Assembly Plant. The informational picket was designed to inform the Public that Tran Tech drivers were being paid substantially less than Area Teamster drivers were being paid. These drivers also have no employer provided health coverage or pension contributions.

The pickets were staffed by numerous Teamster 580 Leaseway and Jack Cooper drivers along with officers and staff of Local 580. The strategy designed with the help of National Carhaul Director Fred Zuckerman and the Local Union worked. After a weekend of picketing Tran Tech was no longer hauling cars out of Lansing and all the work was moved back to Union Carriers.

"We can not allow our area wage and benefits to be undercut like this. Hauling cars is a difficult and dangerous job that requires a high degree of knowledge and skill. Those who do it should be paid Union scale. This work has been and will remain Union work in Lansing. We will remain vigilant to help protect our Members job security.", stated Mike Parker, Secretary
Treasurer of Teamsters Local 580.
